The Practical Person
There are people who live in imagination, wander through imaginary hopes, build castles of imagination, and live in daydreams, yet they achieve nothing because they are not practical.
In contrast, there are practical people who live in reality and act in a way that suits that reality.
The one who lives in imaginary hopes is not practical. And also, the one who weeps over the past without working for the present is not practical. Weeping protects him from nothing.
The one who looks at a problem and collapses without thinking of a solution is not practical. Collapse does not save him.
The one who acts merely for the sake of acting, without thinking about the results of his actions and the reactions they may produce, is not practical.
The one who deals with people according to his own mentality, without taking into consideration their own mentality and their way of understanding, is not practical.
Likewise, the one who believes everyone who praises him, befriends everyone who smiles at him, and thinks that as long as he is convinced of something, then it must certainly be true and everyone else must also be convinced of it, is not practical.
The one who thinks that he has the right to triumph and to be obeyed simply because he is so-and-so is not practical.
The practical person lives in reality, with all the circumstances, obstacles, and problems that reality contains, ignoring none of them.
The practical person deals with people as they are, not as they ought to be. He does not assume imaginary ideals for the people with whom he deals, but knows that they are human beings, like all other human beings, with all the weaknesses and shortcomings of humanity.
The practical person does not deal with his problems by weeping or by mere contemplation, nor by noise or by complaining about the times and those who live in them. Rather, he faces his problems with sound thinking, wisdom, and practical solutions, and asks the Lord to bless his work and grant it success.
The practical person does not live by the word “if,” nor does he spend his entire life thinking about the past. Instead, he takes lessons from the past and works for the present and the future with all his effort.
