God Seeks the Salvation of Humanity

The lecture explains that one of the most important meanings of the Divine Incarnation and Nativity is that God Himself always takes the initiative in seeking the salvation of humanity. Because of human weakness and sin, mankind cannot save itself, so God intervenes with love to search for people and lead them to repentance and salvation.
Main Idea
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III emphasizes that from the beginning God is the One who searches for fallen humanity, just as He did with Adam and Eve after the fall. They did not seek salvation from their sin, but God searched for them and gave them the promise of salvation.
Examples of God’s Seeking Salvation
- The lost sheep did not search for itself, but the shepherd went after it until he found it.
- The lost coin was unable to search for itself, but its owner diligently searched until it was found.
- Saul of Tarsus was not seeking Christ, but was persecuting the Church; nevertheless, the Lord appeared to him and led him to repentance.
- The Samaritan woman was not searching for Christ, but Christ arranged the meeting with her and led her to the knowledge of the truth.
- The people of Nineveh, the people on the ship, and the prophet Jonah received salvation because God took the initiative toward them and worked in their lives.
The Orthodox Spiritual Dimension
The lecture reveals God’s unlimited love, long-suffering, and mercy. He never despairs of a person no matter how far that person has gone or how greatly he has sinned. Rather, He uses various means such as love, discipline, trials, and divine visitation to lead the soul to repentance and salvation.
Human Responsibility
Although God is the One who initiates salvation, human beings are required to respond to the work of grace. God does not force anyone into His love or salvation, but waits for the person’s acceptance and cooperation with the work of the Holy Spirit.
The Message of the Nativity
The Divine Nativity is a practical declaration of God’s love that seeks the salvation of humanity. The Savior came into the world, visited His people Himself, and sent His messengers and angels to proclaim salvation and joy to all people.
Conclusion
God continually works for the salvation of every person and searches for lost souls with great love and patience. However, the fruit of this divine work is fulfilled when a person opens his heart and responds to God’s call, cooperating with grace and accepting the path of salvation.
