A Humble Saint
In this issue, we shall speak about the greatest example of humble women, namely:
The Lady Virgin Mary:
Which woman can endure, in humility and silence, that God should dwell in her womb, become incarnate from her, nurse from her, and that she should thus become the Mother of God, bearing all the glories of the Incarnation without her heart being lifted up and without boasting?
Indeed, bearing honor is more difficult than bearing insult, as Saint Anthony the Great said.
Therefore, when “the Mighty One looked upon the humility of His maidservant,” He did great things for her!
Thus, despite all this glory:
(a) She called herself the handmaid of the Lord, not His mother.
(b) She went to serve Elizabeth during the time of her pregnancy.
(c) She did not speak about this glory that surrounded her; rather, “she kept all these things, pondering them in her heart.”
For this reason, the Lord waited through many generations until this Virgin was born, and He became incarnate from her…
