The Seven Sacraments of the Church

The lecture revolves around explaining the concept of the seven sacraments in the Coptic Orthodox faith, clarifying that the sacrament is an invisible divine grace granted to الإنسان through a visible act performed by a priest with specific church prayers.
Definition of the Sacrament
The sacrament is not just a word mentioned in the Holy Bible, but it is:
- Invisible unseen grace
- Given to the human
- Through a visible ritual and priestly prayer
- Using a specific material for each sacrament
Work of the Holy Spirit
All sacraments are performed by the Holy Spirit without exception. He:
- Sanctifies the water in baptism
- Grants the Holy Spirit in chrismation
- Forgives sins in repentance
- Transforms bread and wine in the Eucharist
- Grants authority in priesthood
- Unites الزوجين in marriage
- Gives healing in the anointing of the sick
Foundation of the Sacraments
All sacraments were established by the Lord Jesus Christ or delivered by the apostles in the Holy Bible, confirming their divine origin and salvific purpose.
Sacrament of Baptism
Baptism is the entrance to all sacraments, and without it no grace can be received. Through it:
- The human receives salvation
- Is born again from water and Spirit
- All sins are forgiven
- Puts on Christ
- Dies with Christ and rises with Him
- Becomes a member in the Body of Christ
Salvific Dimension
Salvation is connected to three elements:
- Faith
- Repentance
- Baptism
None of them can be omitted.
Infant Baptism
The Church confirms the necessity of baptizing children because salvation is necessary for all, and they must not be deprived of God’s grace even if they cannot express faith consciously.
Spiritual Dimension
The sacraments are not just rituals, but a life of communion with God, where the human shares in Christ’s death and resurrection and lives a new life by the Holy Spirit within the Church.
