The lecture explains that the greatest obstacle between الإنسان and God is the “self” or the word “I”, as it is the main cause of الإنسان falling into sins and hindering his spiritual life.

Spiritual Dimension

The teaching focuses on that الإنسان was created to live depending on God, but the problem began when the self became independent from God, and الإنسان wanted to have an independent existence, so he moved away from the true source of life.

Danger of “I”

The word “I” leads الإنسان to:

  • Pride and self-exaltation
  • Selfishness and self-love
  • Conflicts with others
  • Justifying mistakes and عدم الاعتراف بالخطية

It is the root of many sins such as lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life.

Results of Self-Centeredness

When الإنسان focuses on “I”:

  • His relationships with God and people are corrupted
  • He lives in constant inner distress
  • He enters into continuous conflicts and problems
  • He loses inner peace

Spiritual Solution

The solution is denying the self, as in Christian teaching:

  • “Not I, but Christ lives in me”
  • Burying the self in baptism and putting on Christ
  • Surrendering the will and mind to God

Life in Christ

The true life is:

  • That الإنسان disappears so that God appears
  • That الإنسان forgets himself and cares for others
  • That his goal becomes the glory of God and serving people

Spiritual Examples

Examples were presented such as:

  • Abraham who left everything
  • Moses who gave up his glory
  • Mary who forgot herself and sat with Christ

Conclusion

The true comfort of الإنسان comes when he forgets himself and lives for God. Holding onto “I” is the cause of all distress and loss.
