The general idea of the lecture

The lecture addresses the explanation of the concept of “the poor in spirit” as mentioned in the Sermon on the Mount, emphasizing that true humility is a broken heart before God and the human knowledge of his weakness and sins.

True humility

Humility is not just words or an external appearance, but rather an honest inner feeling that the human is sinful and weak, far from any form of pride whether worldly or spiritual.

The danger of spiritual and worldly arrogance

The lecture warns against two types of pride: worldly pride related to appearances and positions, and spiritual pride that appears when a person thinks he is better than others because of his worship or religious knowledge.

The inner life of the humble

The humble person lives in constant brokenness before God and people, does not justify himself nor boast of his virtues, but always sees himself in need of grace and forgiveness.

Prayer with the spirit of humility

True prayer is a feeling of unworthiness, where the person stands before God as dust and ashes, realizing that God’s listening to him is a loving divine condescension.

The relationship of man with sin

The humble constantly confess his sins, and does not blame others or the devil, but bears his spiritual responsibility with honesty and inner awareness.

Directing the heart toward heaven

The sermon confirms that Christ raises the human gaze from earthly matters to heavenly ones, where the true goal is the Kingdom of Heaven and not earthly rewards.

The fruits of humility

The humble is simple, kind, serving others, avoiding self-defense and appearance, and lives a life of constant thanksgiving because he considers everything an undeserved grace.
