The body and the soul share in everything
The lecture explains that الإنسان is created of body and spirit, and they are not separated but work together in complete harmony in all aspects of life, especially in worship and relationship with God. Worship cannot be only spiritual without the participation of the body.
🔹 Unity of Body and Spirit
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III confirms that everything happening in the النفس appears on the body, and everything the body does affects the النفس. Joy, sadness, fear, and shame are spiritual states that appear on the body, proving that الإنسان is one integrated being.
🔹 Spiritual Dimension in Worship
True worship requires the participation of the body with the spirit, such as standing in reverence, raising hands, and bowing. These bodily expressions reflect respect toward God. It is not correct to claim inner reverence while the body lacks reverence.
🔹 Role of Senses and Body
The senses are gates to the mind, and the mind affects the heart and spirit. Therefore, using the body properly in prayer helps bring reverence into the soul and leads to deeper worship.
🔹 Church and Spiritual Examples
The Church provides rituals that involve the body in worship, such as standing during Gospel reading, bowing, kissing the Holy Book, fasting, and bodily purity. These practices deepen spiritual feeling.
🔹 Mutual Influence
What affects the soul affects the body and vice versa. Therefore, caring about the body in worship is not superficial but a means to prepare the heart for a deeper relationship with God.
🔹 Warning Against Separation
The teaching warns against separating body from spirit, as this leads to superficial worship without real impact. True reverence must include the whole person.
🔹 Spiritual Goal
The goal is for the whole الإنسان—spirit, body, senses, and mind—to be in a state of worship and reverence before God, leading to true spiritual growth.
