Translation of the Liturgies

All believers throughout the whole earth are supposed to pray with the same prayers, in one spirit… as it is said in the Book of Acts: “They raised their voice to God with one accord and said…” (Acts 4:24). If this is the case in ordinary prayers, how much more in the Divine Liturgies.

But we notice two important matters: one in Egypt and the other in the diaspora.

  1. In the diaspora, there are multiple translations of the Liturgy, differing in their wording.

  2. And in Egypt, you see some who do not adhere to the language of the Liturgy, but use their own intelligence to create a new translation according to their own understanding, changing the wording of the Liturgy—perhaps with other expressions unfamiliar to the hearers!

We want there to be one translation of the Liturgy in the diaspora, agreed upon by all the churches there. This is easy and possible…
We also want some in Egypt to be humble, not altering the wording of the Liturgy according to their personal understanding, and to leave the review of the Liturgy’s wording to the Rites Committee of the Holy Synod.

We say this for the sake of the unity of the Spirit, so that worshippers are not confused, asking in bewilderment: What is correct? And who among the priests is mistaken in his prayers?!
We also say this for the sake of order in the Church and its preservation…
