Do not make money your goal. And do not worry because of it. Remember the saying of the Prophet David: “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his descendants begging bread” (Psalm 37:25).
How beautiful this principle is, and how worthy it is of being memorized: “Whoever pursues money, money flees from him. And whoever flees from money, money runs after him.”
It is not right for you to clash with the people or with the church council for financial reasons. Nor is it fitting for you to complain before people about your financial situation. Rise above this level.
The people love the ascetic priest, the one whose hand is pure, and they respect him and entrust him with their money.
There is a great difference between a priest who visits a sick person out of his love for him, and prays the Unction service for him with all his heart so that he may be healed, and another priest who visits the sick and the healthy alike to pray the Unction service for the sake of offerings and money…
Your prayers cannot be valued by money. Nor is money the price of them. Free these prayers and purify them from the bond of money…
