Main Idea

The lecture revolves around the importance of a person reviewing his life at the beginning of a new year, measuring the extent of God’s presence in his past days, and the call for every moment in life to be filled with God and to have spiritual value.

Self-Examination

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III calls for a person to ask himself: how many days did he live with God? And how much of his time belonged to God? The true days in a person’s life are only those lived in God’s presence and through the work of the Holy Spirit.

Value of Time

He emphasizes that time that passes cannot be returned, and therefore every minute must be respected, and life should not be wasted on things without value, because wasted time causes regret without the possibility of compensation.

A New Beginning

He encourages starting the new year with a strong spirit, considering it a white page that should only be written with good deeds, forgetting sorrows but not forgetting sins, rather repenting from them.

Compensation and Spiritual Growth

He اشاره to the necessity of compensating for the shortcomings of the past year by setting spiritual programs such as reading, prayer, memorization, and service, so that a person grows spiritually and regains his first fervor.

Spiritual Order

He focuses on the importance of setting a clear and precise spiritual system that includes all aspects of life, because life without order leads to distraction and loss.

Commitment and Struggle

He stresses the necessity of committing to this system without negligence, striving against oneself and thoughts, and not surrendering to temptations or obstacles, because the Kingdom of Heaven requires seriousness and strength.

Self-Discipline

He calls for using all human energies to discipline oneself instead of directing them against others, with the necessity of steadfastness and عدم الرجوع, even when falling, but rising quickly and continuing.
