Famous Women in Scripture and History

The Canaanite Woman:
One of the best examples of humble women is the Canaanite woman. When the Lord said to her, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs,” she answered with humility: “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table” (Matthew 15:27).
Because the Lord knew her humility, He allowed Himself to speak to her in this manner, in order to present her as a lesson to people. Therefore, He later praised her, saying to her, “O woman, great is your faith”…
Saint Sarah:
Among humble women is Saint Sarah, the wife of our father Abraham, who used to call him “my lord.”
In her conversation with the Lord, when He told her that she would bear a son, she thought, saying: “After I have grown old, shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?” (Genesis 18:12). By the word “my lord,” she meant her husband Abraham.
Sarah is a wonderful example of a wife’s humility in her relationship with her husband, and in the way she addresses him, despite love and equality.
