Jonah the Prophet – Bright White Spots

The lecture explains that God never loses hope in any person, no matter how great his sins or weaknesses are, because He always looks at what is good and bright in the human heart and makes that point the beginning of the person’s salvation.
Through the Book of Jonah, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains that God found bright points in the sailors, the people of Nineveh, and even in Jonah himself despite their faults, and therefore He visited them and led them to repentance and salvation.
The lecture also presents many examples from the Holy Bible, such as the rich young man, the sinful woman, Zacchaeus the tax collector, David the prophet, Samson, the Samaritan woman, and the prodigal son, to confirm that God encourages the good that exists in a person more than He focuses on his weaknesses and sins.
The lecture explains that people often look at the faults of others and judge them, while God looks at the seeds of goodness that can grow and bear fruit when they receive encouragement and love.
It also confirms that God’s mercy is great, that He never forgets any good deed no matter how small it may seem, but keeps it and uses it as a way to lead a person to repentance.
The lecture calls every believer not to despair of himself or of others, but to imitate God by searching for the bright aspects and encouraging them instead of focusing on faults.
It also confirms that encouragement and love lead to true change more than condemnation and harshness, and that this is God’s way of dealing with all people.
Finally, the central message is that God saves people by encouraging the good that is hidden within them and always grants them hope and a new opportunity for life and repentance.
