The lecture revolves around the difference between intellectual knowledge of God and true experiential knowledge of Him. Pope Shenouda III confirms that many think they know God, but in reality they do not have a true relationship with Him.

True Knowledge of God

True knowledge is not مجرد information or reading in books, but it is:

  • A living personal relationship with God
  • A daily experience of His presence in life
  • An inner feeling of God’s love and power

Biblical Examples

Pope Shenouda presents examples such as:

  • Philip who lived with Christ yet did not truly know Him
  • The disciples of Emmaus who walked with Him without recognizing Him
  • The Pharisee who prayed and fasted without a real relationship with God

These examples confirm that religious practices alone are not enough.

Knowledge by the Heart, Not Only the Mind

The teaching emphasizes that:

  • Intellectual knowledge alone does not save
  • True knowledge comes from the heart and the spirit
  • “Taste and see that the Lord is good” means a living personal experience

Signs of Knowing God

Whoever truly knows God:

  • Loves God more than His gifts
  • Sees the world as less valuable compared to God’s love
  • Lives in continuous fellowship with Him

Spiritual Warning

It warns against:

  • Settling for religious appearances
  • Seeking miracles without relationship
  • Loving God’s gifts instead of God Himself

The Way to Know God

Knowing God comes through:

  • Living with Him and experiencing Him
  • Entering into a relationship of love and fellowship
  • Accepting trials as a way to see God’s work

Conclusion

Knowing God is not an idea or philosophy, but a life and fellowship. A person is called to “taste” God personally, not just hear about Him.
