Women’s Service
Women have a service in the Church that they can carry out, using the abilities and gifts that God has bestowed upon them.
In the early Church, there was a ministry for deaconesses, widows, and virgins, as well as women who were evangelists, such as Mary Magdalene and Phoebe.
And in the Catholic Church at present, thousands of consecrated women serve in the Church’s educational, health, and social fields, and carry out a wide-ranging mission.
Although in our Coptic Church there are abundant numbers of women and girls working within the field of Church education, the aspect of women consecrated for service is almost nonexistent.
Our nuns in all six monasteries are devoted to worship, away from service. So what would be the situation of a girl who wishes to consecrate herself to service and not to seclusion?!
For this reason, His Holiness the Pope is seriously considering establishing a system for consecrated women who dedicate themselves to serving the Church in various fields.
So that they may have an established system, whether married or celibate. They would live under the care of the Church and under its supervision in service, within an ecclesiastical status that has an official character.
