The Sermon on the Mount – You will know them by their fruits

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

The lecture by Pope Shenouda III speaks about the human being whom God likens to a living fruitful tree, which must be ثابت in the Lord and connected to the springs of living water that symbolize the work of the Holy Spirit in the person.

Pope Shenouda III explains that the living tree is not satisfied merely with existing, but it must continually grow and give good fruit. Spiritual growth is a sign of life with God, while the stopping of growth points to weakness in spiritual life and the presence of obstacles preventing the person from advancing in the path of God.

The lecture also confirms that true fruit appears in a person’s deeds, words, behavior, and the love people have for him, because “by their fruits you shall know them.” The person filled with the Spirit of God shows the fruits of the Spirit such as love, joy, peace, meekness, and purity.

Pope Shenouda III also speaks about the importance of abiding in God and depending on the Holy Spirit, because without the grace of God a person cannot offer good fruit. The Holy Spirit is the living water that waters the soul and grants it continual spiritual life.

The lecture also warns against being satisfied with outward appearances or formal faith without works, because true faith must appear in a holy practical life, and in service, love, and giving to others.

The lecture explains that God has given the human being all the means of salvation and spiritual growth from grace, repentance, church sacraments, teaching, and care, and He waits for the person to offer good fruit worthy of these divine gifts.

Pope Shenouda III also clarifies that there are visible fruits seen by people in dealings, speech, and service, and hidden fruits inside the heart known only by God, such as prayer, inner love, and spiritual longing.

The lecture concludes by emphasizing that the person must continually examine himself and ask: what fruit do I offer to God and to people? And does my life reflect the presence of the Spirit of God within me? Because in the end God will ask for the fruit of spiritual life from every person.
