The Lord’s appearance to his disciples after the Resurrection

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

Pope Shenouda III speaks about the appearances of the Lord Christ after the Resurrection, explaining that God’s appearances to human beings had various purposes, including calling people to service, encouragement, blessing, protection during tribulations, strengthening, and sometimes correction.
In Christ’s Resurrection, the most important purposes of these appearances were manifested in restoring the disciples and building up their faith after they had been shaken by the events of the Crucifixion, fear, and doubt.
The Lord did not appear to His disciples in order to rebuke them for their fleeing, denial, or doubt, but appeared in order to restore them, return their strength to them, and gather them together again.

Spiritual Message

Pope Shenouda emphasizes that Christ’s nature is one of building and restoration, not condemnation and punishment, and that Christ came to save humanity and free people from their weakness, fear, and doubt.
This is clearly shown in His dealings with Saint Peter, as He did not focus on his sin and denial, but restored him to his ministry and asked him to feed Christ’s sheep and lambs.
Christ also dealt with Thomas and with the disciples who doubted or were afraid in a way that gradually led them to faith, showing that He takes human feelings into consideration and does not pressure a person beyond what he can bear.

Educational Lesson

The teaching shows us that the Resurrection is not merely an event in which we believe, but a power that changed the lives of the disciples and transformed those who were afraid into courageous people who witnessed to Christ.
It also explains that Christ did not depend on outward displays and miracles merely to impress people, but wanted a faith that comes from the heart, a faith in the Resurrection even without seeing Christ with one’s eyes.
Therefore, Christ gradually revealed Himself in His appearances after the Resurrection, appearing to the disciples in a way that helped them comprehend the reality of the Resurrection, accept it, and believe in it.

Practical Application

The spiritual application is that we should learn from Christ how to build others up instead of judging them, and how to help a weak person rise from his weakness instead of reminding him of his mistakes.
We should also trust in the power of the Resurrection, because human and evil powers have limits, while God’s work cannot be prevented by barriers or persecution.
This encourages us to live by faith in Christ’s presence with us, because He promised to be with us all the days, and to hold firmly to the hope of the Resurrection and eternal life with Him.
