Main Idea

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III emphasizes that the Coptic Church gives the Holy Bible a unique importance through prayers, liturgies, church sacraments, and hymns, where the verses of the Gospel are present throughout all aspects of church and spiritual life.

Spiritual and Educational Dimension

  • The Holy Bible is the primary source of teaching and spiritual guidance.
  • Hearing the Gospel must be accompanied by practicing and applying it in daily life.
  • The Church shows great reverence toward the Gospel through the rituals and prayers related to its reading.

  • Memorizing important verses and chapters helps a person grow spiritually and resist temptations and sins.
  • The Word of God is an effective power that enlightens the path and supports a person in spiritual struggle and service.
  • The ultimate goal is not merely to know the Holy Bible, but for the person to become a living message of Christ read by everyone through behavior and life.

Steps of the Correct Relationship with the Holy Bible

  1. Possessing the Holy Bible and keeping it always.
  2. Being regular in reading it from both the Old and New Testaments.
  3. Understanding it with a spiritual understanding.
  4. Meditating on its words.
  5. Applying its commandments practically.
