The Main Idea of the Lecture

The lecture explains that the true Shepherd is God Himself, as declared by the Holy Scripture, and that everyone who is called a shepherd is only a steward through whom God works. Shepherding is not a position or a dignity, but a serious responsibility for which a person will be questioned before God, especially because he is responsible for the souls of others, not only for himself.

God Is the True Shepherd

The biblical teaching confirms that God is the Shepherd of shepherds, and He is the One who seeks the lost, binds the wounded, and judges with justice. The person who is called a shepherd is only an instrument used by God to serve His people; therefore, God remains the true leader and organizer.

The Seriousness of the Responsibility

Shepherding is a responsibility connected to the salvation of souls. The shepherd is required to warn the sinner and lead him to repentance; otherwise, the soul will be required from his hand. Therefore, the shepherd feels the weight of this service and prays that God may deliver him from the blood of souls that may perish because of his negligence.

The Spiritual Conditions of the Shepherd

Because the shepherd is responsible for others, it is not enough that he be only a righteous person, but he must be an example and a model. He must take heed to himself and to the teaching, and continue in the truth, so that he may save himself and those who hear him also. He must also be fit to teach, knowledgeable in the law, and faithful in giving the spiritual food in its proper time.

The Sin of the Shepherd and Its Effect

The sin of the shepherd is not like the sin of the common people, because it may cause stumbling and doubt, and may cause others to weaken or make enemies rejoice. Therefore, the shepherd is measured by a higher standard than merely what is lawful and unlawful, but by the standard of perfection and spiritual propriety.

The Shepherd as Steward and Ambassador

The shepherd is a steward of God and an ambassador on His behalf, entrusted with the mysteries of God and the service of His people. If he is faithful, he will receive blessedness; but if he neglects or misuses his authority, he will face severe judgment. Therefore, he must live in constant spiritual vigilance, careful in his conduct, so that no one may stumble because of him.

The Spiritual Message

The spiritual essence of the lecture is that shepherding is a divine calling that requires faithfulness, holiness, and deep responsibility. The true shepherd is the one who allows God to work in him and through him, becoming a faithful servant who leads souls to salvation and keeps them in the way of truth.
