The Committees of the Holy Synod
The committees of the Holy Synod held their meetings under the presidency of His Holiness the Pope, and in the presence of His Grace Bishop Bishoy, Secretary of the Synod, in order to organize their ongoing work. This took place during the period from August 26–28 of the current month.
The Monasticism Committee:
The Monasticism Committee held its meeting in the presence of Their Graces:
Bishop Sarabamon, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Anba Bishoy.
Bishop Hedra, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Anba Pachomius.
Bishop Arsenius, Abbot of the Monastery of the Virgin (Al-Baramous).
Bishop Dioscorus, Administrator of the Monastery of Saint Anba Antony.
Bishop Mina, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Mar Mina.
Bishop Sawirus, Abbot of the Monastery of the Virgin (Al-Muharraq).
Bishop Mina, Abbot of the Monastery of Saint Anba Samuel.
Bishop Bemwa (representing the ancient monasteries).
And Hegumen Bakhsherion Al-Antoni.
His Grace Bishop Theophilus was absent due to illness, and Bishop Agathon due to travel.
The committee examined the rules and regulations necessary for monasticism. It will also study the issuance of a monasticism bylaw soon….
The Rites Committee:
The Rites Committee held its meeting in the presence of Their Graces:
Bishop Maximos, Bishop Bishoy, Bishop Sarabamon, Bishop Wissa, Bishop Hedra, Bishop Yakobos, Bishop Benjamin, Bishop Dioscorus, Bishop Serapion, and Hegumen Marcos Ghali, Patriarchal Vicar.
The committee examined a large number of liturgical matters and decided to hold a meeting next month to continue the study.
