Spiritual Watchfulness Part 5

The main idea
The lecture revolves around the fact that true spiritual life cannot be based on human struggle alone, but needs a real partnership with God, where God is both the means and the goal.
Relying on God
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains that a person cannot reach God by his will or strength alone, because human nature is weak and falls easily. Therefore, complete reliance on God is necessary, as He is the way, the door, and the means to reach Him.
The failure of human struggle
He presents the condition of a person who wants to do good but cannot, as explained by Apostle Paul, where the will struggles with sin. This proves that individual struggle without God’s grace leads to repeated failure.
The importance of prayer and striving with God
The solution is that a person strives in prayer, not alone, but with God. He asks Him for help, confesses his weakness, and cries out for divine strength to overcome sin.
Asking for inner change
It is not enough to fix outward appearances, but one must ask for a new heart and a new spirit from God, as promised in the Holy Bible. True change comes from within through the work of the Holy Spirit.
Holding onto God’s promises
He encourages holding onto God’s promises and persisting in prayer until God fulfills His words. God is faithful in His promises, but a person must ask with faith and persistence.
Humility and honesty before God
He emphasizes the necessity of confessing weakness and not relying on oneself, but coming to God as one is, with all weaknesses, so that God may work and transform him.
Salvation from sin itself
Salvation is not only forgiveness of sins, but also deliverance from sin itself and its power within الإنسان، and this is done through the work of Christ and the Holy Spirit.
