Some reflections on Epiphany

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks in this lecture about the deep spiritual meanings of the Feast of Epiphany, explaining that this feast reveals the Holy Trinity, where the Son appeared in the Jordan, the voice of the Father came from heaven, and the Holy Spirit appeared in the form of a dove. He also explains that the baptism of the Lord Christ was not because He needed repentance, but rather as an expression of complete humility and the fulfillment of all righteousness.

✨ The Essence of the Spiritual Message

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III focuses on the virtue of humility as the main characteristic in the life of the Lord Christ. Although Christ was completely holy, He stood among sinners to be baptized, presenting a practical example of the humble person who does not seek earthly glory.

✨ The Humility of the Lord Christ

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains that the Lord Christ:

  • Was baptized although He was without sin.
  • Fasted although He did not need fasting.
  • Accepted to be baptized by John the Baptist in a wonderful image of humility.
  • Lived a simple life without worldly appearance or earthly glory.
  • Endured temptations and sufferings without using His power to show greatness before people.

✨ The Humility of John the Baptist

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III also highlights the humility of John the Baptist who said:
“I need to be baptized by You,”
and also:
“He must increase, but I must decrease.”
He explains that true humility is for a person to know his reality before God.

✨ Baptism in the Coptic Orthodox Understanding

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about baptism as:

  • Death and resurrection with Christ.
  • Burial of the old man.
  • A new birth in Christ.
He also explains that the Coptic Church calls the feast “The Feast of Immersion” to confirm that baptism is performed through full immersion.

✨ The Spiritual Call for the Believer

This lecture calls the believer to learn from the Lord Christ:

  • Meekness and humility.
  • Carrying the cross.
  • Self-denial.
  • Staying away from the love of appearances and worldly greatness.
For the true Christian path is built upon humility and spiritual suffering, not upon display or vain glory.
