Saint Timothy, disciple of Paul the Apostle

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

In this lecture, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about Saint Timothy, disciple of Saint Paul the Apostle, who was ordained by Paul as bishop of Ephesus. He is presented as a wonderful example of a young believer working in the church with faith and purity. The Pope explains that youth does not prevent effective service, and that holiness is not by age but by example, obedience, and holy zeal.

Introduction

The talk presents the character of Saint Timothy, one of the most prominent disciples of Paul the Apostle, whom Paul appointed bishop of the city of Ephesus. Despite his young age, Paul instructed him saying: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers,” encouraging him to teach, correct, and lead with courage.

Spiritual lessons from the biography

  • Youth and leadership: Saint Timothy represents the image of a strong young man in faith, dedicating his energy to serve God without fear of age or inexperience.

  • Practical example: Paul instructed him to be an example in word, conduct, love, faith, and purity — marks of the true servant.

  • Spiritual strength: Although young, he was strong in spirit, teaching, and zeal for the church.

  • Divine trust: God chooses instruments by the heart, not by age, making a young man a leader and teacher of the church.

Spiritual dimension from a Coptic Orthodox perspective

The biography shows that God uses youth in evangelism and leadership when they live pure lives full of grace. Christian example is not by age but by the working Spirit, and the church sees in youth the continuation of the apostolic generation in faith, obedience, and teaching.
