Saint Ansimos the Queen

The lecture speaks about the biography of Saint Ansimos the Queen, who lived a life of holiness and asceticism despite her presence in the palace of kings. Since her childhood, she was raised by a pious priest father who taught her the Holy Scriptures and the lives of the saints, so her heart became filled with the love of God and she longed for the spiritual life.
Life of Piety and Asceticism
The saint lived an ascetic life while she was still a princess. She used to give her luxurious food to the poor and eat simple food, and she also hid rough clothes under her royal garments as a sign of humility and love of worship.
Her Love for the Poor and Service
After the death of her parents, she became queen over the country, but she used the wealth of the kingdom to serve the needy. She spent on the poor, widows, and orphans, and helped monasteries and hospitals, while living in royal glory with a spirit of asceticism and humility.
Leaving Worldly Glory
The saint felt that the glory of the world hindered her from complete devotion to God, so she left the palace at night disguised in simple clothes and went to the wilderness seeking a life of solitude and worship.
Her Amazing Humility
She entered one of the monasteries in the form of a simple-minded woman in order to escape the praise and honor of people. She accepted to serve in humble works without anyone knowing her true identity, and she hid her virtues and her deep spiritual life.
Revelation of Her Holiness
God revealed the holiness of this humble queen to one of the holy fathers, and he informed the nuns of her truth and that she had left the throne and glory for the love of God. When she knew that her matter had been discovered, she fled once again to the wilderness escaping vain glory.
Her Life in the Wilderness
The lecture explains that the saint reached very high spiritual ranks and lived with a group of wandering ascetics in the wilderness. She guided many people with her wisdom and holiness until she became a spiritual mother for the monks.
The Spiritual Message
The biography focuses on the fact that the love of God is greater than the glory of the world, and that true humility and hiding virtues lead a person to a life of holiness. It also confirms that mercy toward the poor, asceticism, and continuous prayer are the path to union with God according to the Coptic Orthodox teaching.
