Promotion on the Basis of Merit

Promotion on the Basis of Merit
It is supposed that every priestly promotion should be based on a strong foundation of experience.
For the priest is first ordained as a consecrated deacon.
And after this deacon spends a period in service, during which he proves his worthiness, and becomes the object of everyone’s approval, they recommend him for priesthood.
Likewise, a priest is not promoted to the rank of hegumen unless he proves his success in managing the people. And the people recommend him for this promotion, as everyone testifies that he is worthy.
As for promotion based on turn and seniority, it does not satisfy anyone’s conscience, and it has no pastoral foundation.
