Main Idea

The text speaks about prayer as one of the most important causes of success in a person’s life, explaining that success does not depend only on abilities, intelligence, and human effort, but also needs God’s help. It emphasizes that human strength alone is not enough, because a person constantly needs divine assistance. The text gives the example of Joseph the Righteous, who was successful because the Lord was with him, and also refers to the Prophet David, who sought God’s guidance before undertaking any work. Through prayer, a person places his affairs and problems in God’s hands and receives peace and confidence instead of fear and anxiety.

Spiritual Message

Prayer makes a person feel God’s presence with him, strengthens his faith and morale, and gives him inner joy and comfort in the midst of trials. Prayer also establishes a true relationship between a person and God, making him feel friendship and fellowship with Him, and moving him from concern with material things and the world toward God and spiritual matters. Prayer also helps purify the heart and mind, making a person more ashamed of sin and more distant from it. The more serious and deep a person is in his prayer, the more he grows in his spiritual life and draws closer to God.

Educational Lesson

The text teaches that training in prayer should not be merely an external practice concerning the number or timing of prayers, but should be a deep inner training of the heart. One of the most important aspects of this training is learning humility and not relying solely on one’s intelligence and human abilities, but recognizing one’s true need for God. Prayer should also become one of the person’s highest priorities, rather than something placed at the end of his list of concerns when he has leftover time. The text emphasizes the importance of prayer flowing from love for God and the desire for friendship and fellowship with Him.

Practical Application

A person should use times of free time to train himself in a life of prayer and should care about the essence of prayer, not merely its outward form. He should learn to place his problems and needs in God’s hands with confidence and enter prayer with a humble heart that recognizes its need for divine help. He should also grow in his love for God so that prayer becomes nourishment for the heart, spirit, and emotions. The primary goal of prayer is to strengthen the relationship between a person and God, and for prayer to be an expression of faith, love, and trust in God.
