Poetry and Literary Selections – Crying Eyes
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about tenderness and depth of human emotion, quoting the poet:
“Joy rushed upon me so strongly that from how happy I was, I wept.”
His Holiness explains that some eyes weep not only in sorrow but even in joy, because the hearts behind them are sensitive and sincere. Such deep feelings overflow into tears, whether the emotion is happiness or sadness.
🔹 Main Idea:
Tears are not always a sign of pain—they can also express profound joy or pure inner emotion.
🔹 Sensitive Eyes:
The Pope describes “sensitive eyes” that cry both in joy and sorrow, for their tears come from the truth of feeling, not from weakness. These are the eyes of the heart that perceive deeply, beyond outward appearances.
🔹 Spiritual Dimension:
This teaching shows that sincere emotion is a sign of spiritual purity. A tender heart is close to God, for God Himself is moved by mercy and compassion toward His children.
🔹 Faith Message:
Tears that flow from a pure heart are not weakness—they are the language of divine love, whether in joy or in sorrow. The eyes that weep out of love are blessed in the sight of God.
