On Family Day

In the month of March each year, Egypt arranged for us a Family Day. At first, it was Mother’s Day, then it expanded until it included the entire family.

Here there is a beautiful indication of the importance of the family, as a unit bound together by love, by the mother, by kinship, and by unity of destiny.

And whoever does not love his family, do not believe that he truly loves anyone else…

The family is the source of love…

The love that united two spouses, who became parents to children whom they raised in love and self-giving, spending everything for their sake.

And every member of the family, when he grows up, seeks to form a family of his own.

Through the family, society is formed, and all humanity is formed…

How beautiful it is for humanity to be one interconnected family united by love.

Here we would like to mention that the family has a serious responsibility that it must fulfill…

The life of the family with God…

The family upbringing of all the children.

These are the two vital points that we mention on Family Day, and this is the duty with which we remind every father, every mother, and every member of the family.

The spiritual family gives birth to spiritual children.

And the religious family presents to society a spiritual example and spiritual children…

Therefore, every husband and wife should possess spiritual, intellectual, and educational maturity, so that a good and cohesive home may be established, presenting to society righteous and beneficial offspring.

Here society must be concerned, just as the Church is concerned, with family guidance.

We provide the family with the necessary guidance through which we lead it toward idealism and a sound spiritual life, so that its problems may decrease or disappear… And if problems do exist, they can be solved…

I mention here the duty of the priestly fathers and the duty of the teachers in the Church in caring for the family and working on building it spiritually…

This is the gift that we offer to every family on Family Day.

Every father and mother must know that their duty is not only to care for their children regarding clothing, food, shelter, and education…

Rather, even more, the duty of parents is to care for the spiritual life of their children…

Because they will give an account before God concerning the morals of their children, their spirituality, and their manner of conduct in life…

All this should be done with love and calmness, not through domination and a style of commands and prohibitions…

The father and mother are responsible for presenting a good example and a worthy model to their children.

One of the most dangerous things that our society suffers from is the preoccupation of parents with matters other than raising their children!

And leaving children to nannies or daycare centers, far from the natural love of their parents… Or raising children only on the social level and not on the spiritual level…

More dangerous than this is when children do not find tenderness from their parents and seek tenderness from another external source.

And they may go astray.

And become prey to those who exploit them!!

The reason may be the harshness of the parents.
