Motherhood – On the Occasion of Mother’s Day
It is very good that our beloved country has designated a Mother’s Day in March of every year, during the spring season. The word “mother” is a beloved word, which each person interprets according to their emotions and sense of belonging.
The first mother is Eve, the mother of all humanity. Unfortunately, we do not find in Mother’s Day those who mention her or care for her. In most cases, we do not speak of her in a positive way; rather, we attribute to her all the suffering of humanity and forget her virtues!
On Mother’s Day, each one of us remembers the mother who gave birth to him. He recalls her love and care, and remembers that she was the first smiling face he encountered in life. She was the first to caress and comfort him. She cared for him and endured him until he grew up.
A tribute to this kind human being who cares for the whole home. She even fills the house with beauty, elegance, cleanliness, and order, arranging everything that is disorganized or chaotic without complaint or grumbling. She may become tired in all of this without hearing a kind word or a word of thanks.
Because of people’s love for the mother and their sense of belonging to her, the title “mother” has been extended to other forms of belonging as well.
We call the homeland “mother,” saying “Egypt is our mother.” We also call the university where we studied “mother,” considering ourselves her children. And we call the Church “mother,” saying “the Church is our mother.”
On Mother’s Day, we honor all these virtuous mothers.
God commanded honoring the mother as well as the father in one commandment (Exodus 20:12). We must learn how to honor her practically.
