Memory and Notes

Memory and Notes
A priest’s memory should be strong.
He should not forget a duty that he must fulfill for one of his parishioners. He should not forget a promise he has made to someone. He should not forget to inquire about someone he has heard is sick or in distress. Nor should he forget a face he has seen, lest someone say to him, “Do you remember me, Father?” Likewise, he should not forget an appointment to which he has committed himself.
And if a priest’s memory fails him at times, then notes are indispensable: a notebook, or a person to remind him—a deacon or one of his spiritual children.
It is not an acceptable excuse for a priest to say concerning an important matter, “I am sorry, I forgot”.
