In Dealing with the Husband

In Dealing with the Husband
Question
My husband never goes to church. And if I tell him, “Come, let us go to church,” he cannot stand what I say. So what should I do with him?
Answer
Did you discover this only after marriage, or was he also like this during the engagement period, during which you could have discovered his character and known whether he was religious or not? Thus, you could have led him to religiousness, or reconsidered this marriage, and the matter was in your hands. But now we are faced with the reality of the situation.
My advice to you is to attract him to the church through your good example and your kind spirit, or gradually, such as having him first attend some interesting church activities, or some of its celebrations that have an element of joy and entertainment. Introduce him to some people in the church with whom he may feel comfortable. Until he gradually progresses to going to hear an interesting sermon… and so on, until he becomes prepared to attend the Divine Liturgies.
But beware of insisting on him in a way that makes him hate the church, or causes him to become stubborn and thus increases his rejection, or he may become angry with you. You cannot drag him to the church with a rope, but rather by an inner motivation from within him.
