Coptic Scholars
Some people think that Coptic scholars were limited to the first five centuries, during which the saints lived:
Athanasius, Cyril, Didymus the Blind, Dionysius, Timothy… as well as Pantaenus and Clement.
However, our Coptic history provides us with examples of Coptic scholars who appeared in later centuries, such as the thirteenth century and afterward.
Among these are:
1. The Sons of al-Assal: Three brothers who became deeply versed in many theological disciplines and the canons of the Church.
2. Saint Paul of Bush: He authored The Spiritual Sciences, homilies on the feasts, and commentaries on the Holy Scriptures.
3. Anba Michael, Bishop of Milij: He compiled the two books of the Synaxarium and Spiritual Medicine.
4. Ibn Kabar: He wrote the book The Lamp of Darkness, which covers numerous subjects.
5. Ibn Katib Qaysar: He wrote a commentary on the Book of Revelation and books on the Coptic language.
6. Ibn al-Sabba: He authored a valuable book on the liturgical rites entitled The Precious Jewel.
7. Saint Peter al-Sadamanti: He wrote the book The Correction Concerning the Sufferings of Christ.
