Every Person
The Didascalia says: “Let the bishop care for every person that he may save him”, The expression “care for” does not mean formalities or outward procedures, but rather a genuine concern of the heart for the salvation of people.
And the phrase “every person” means that he forgets no one, whoever they may be. Therefore, the priest says in the Midnight Prayer: “Remember, O Lord, the weak, the absent, and those who have no one to remember them”.
How great is the responsibility of the shepherd.
If he cares for the ninety-nine and forgets the one remaining, he will surely have to give an account for him before God.
A living conscience does not rejoice merely in the large number of those who attend the church, but thinks deeply about those who did not come.
And the bishop cannot do all this alone; rather, he needs assistants from among the priests and deacons, so that they may care with him for every person.
