Christ’s Formation of the Church and His Care for the Church

The lecture explains that the Church is a divine work established by the Lord Christ Himself, and it is not merely a human gathering, but a living spiritual entity based on salvation, holiness, and communion with God.
The Church in Christ’s Thought
His Holiness Pope Shenouda III views the Church as an object of deep love from Christ. It is His body and He is its head. Therefore, the Church is not separate from Him, but it is in Him and He is in it, a complete unity that cannot be separated.
The Church as a Community of Saints
The Church is a community of saints who were sanctified by the blood of Christ and His Holy Spirit, and they received this sanctification through the holy sacraments, especially baptism and communion.
The Role of the Cross and Resurrection
The Cross purified the Church from sin, and the Resurrection saved it from death, and by sending the Holy Spirit the Church became sanctified, and every member in it became a temple for the Holy Spirit.
The Church’s Relationship with the Trinity
The Church is connected to the Holy Trinity:
- Children of the Father
- Body of the Son
- Temples of the Holy Spirit
The Church as One Body
Believers are not separate individuals, but members in one body, suffering together and rejoicing together, and each completes the other in a deep spiritual unity.
The Church and the Life of the Sacraments
The Church lives around the altar and is nourished by the Body and Blood of the Lord, and it cannot exist without the sacraments, priesthood, or the Holy Spirit.
The Concept of Communion
The Church is a communion with Christ in His death, resurrection, life, and righteousness, and separation from it means losing this communion and thus losing spiritual life.
Christ’s Love for the Church
Christ’s love for the Church appears in all stages of His work: in His teaching, in His crucifixion, in His resurrection, and in His continuous care for it forever, as He desires it to always be with Him.
