A Life of Purity and Holiness

The sermon speaks about the importance of living during the Great Lent in purity, chastity, holiness, and righteousness.
It explains that at the beginning of creation, man was pure and simple because he knew goodness and did not know evil.
But the knowledge of evil entered human life and corrupted its simplicity and purity, introducing thoughts and feelings that harm him.
Therefore, the sermon warns against deliberately seeking evil things, whether through what a person reads, watches, hears, or continually exposes himself to.

Spiritual Message

The sermon explains that the knowledge of evil can develop from mere intellectual knowledge into contact with sin, then submission to it, and eventually love and desire for sin, causing a person to lose his strength and will.
For this reason, it emphasizes that fleeing from sin and staying away from its sources is better than entering into a constant struggle with it, presenting Joseph’s flight from sin as an example of victory.
It also encourages a person to continually ask himself: Where am I? And why am I here? He should stay away from everything that could draw his heart toward sin.
The sermon also points to the importance of not continuing to remember what a person has previously learned about evil, but rather replacing such knowledge with beneficial things so that its effects on the mind and memory gradually weaken.

Educational Lesson

The sermon teaches that a person should not underestimate the effect of the knowledge he allows to enter his mind and heart, because what he sees, hears, and reads may remain within him and later appear as thoughts, feelings, or suspicions.
It also explains that continuing in repentance while continuing to introduce sources of sin into one’s life is like cleansing oneself and then filling one’s life again with things that pollute its purity.
It encourages the pursuit of the righteousness given by the Lord Jesus Christ, while continuing to struggle spiritually and staying away from everything that weakens the spiritual life.

Practical Application

The practical application is for a person to stay away from knowledge of sin, its material, and its areas of influence, and not deliberately expose himself to things that may weaken his purity.
He should replace harmful knowledge with good and beneficial knowledge, and guard his heart, mind, and memory from the remnants of evil.
He should also flee from sin when he finds himself near it and should not consider fleeing a weakness, but rather a means of preserving his spiritual life.
The goal is for a person to grow in righteousness and purity, asking God to wash him from the effects of sin and grant him righteousness, until he finally reaches the fullness of purity in eternity.
