Prayer
Prayer is opening the heart to God, so that it may speak with Him in a conversation mingled with love and frankness. It is presenting the soul before God.
Prayer is a connection, a connection between man and God. Therefore, it is not merely a conversation, but rather a heart connecting with a heart.
Prayer is the feeling of being in the presence of God. It is communion with the Holy Spirit and attachment to God.
Prayer is the food of the angels and the spiritual ones; through it they are nourished and taste the Lord: “Taste and see how good the Lord is.”
Prayer is the satisfaction of a soul thirsty for God: “My soul has longed for You, as the deer longs for the streams of water.” “In Your name I lift up my hands, and my soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness.”
Prayer is surrendering life to God, so that He Himself may manage it: “Your will be done.” Prayer is an acknowledgment of the insufficiency of our effort and the insufficiency of our intelligence, and therefore we resort to a power higher than ourselves, in which we find our care.
Prayer is the abolition of our independence from God.
It is an encounter with God: you ascend to Him, or He descends to us.
It is transforming the soul into heaven, and into a dwelling place for God.
Prayer is not an obligation, nor an order, nor merely a commandment, nor merely piety and worship. It is a desire and a longing. Otherwise, it would be burdensome, legalistic, done by compulsion for the sake of obedience!!
Prayer is not merely asking. A person may pray and ask for nothing. Rather, he contemplates the beauty of God and His attributes that give life to the soul. Thus, the prayer of praise and glorification is higher than asking.
He who has another desire besides God alone cannot enjoy prayer as he ought.
Prayer is a complete death to the world and a total forgetting of earthly things, where there is nothing in the mind except God alone.
Prayer is the ladder connecting heaven and earth. It is a bridge by which you cross to the heavenly places, where there is no world there.
It is the key to heaven.
It is a collection of feelings united in words.
And there may be prayer without speech, without words.
A heartbeat is prayer. A tear of the eye is prayer. The soul’s feeling of the presence of God is prayer.
