Saints in the Second Half of the Month of Mesori
The Feast of the Virgin:
At the beginning of the second half of the month (16 Mesori), we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of the Body of the Virgin Mary (August 22).
The Feast of Abba Macarius the Great:
Three days later (19 Mesori), we celebrate the return of the body of Saint Macarius the Great to his monastery in the Desert of Scetis. The monastery holds a great celebration on this occasion, because it is the saint’s annual feast, apart from the day of his departure on 27 Baramhat.
The Feast of Saint Tekle Haymanot:
On 24 Mesori, we celebrate the commemoration of the departure of Saint Tekle Haymanot the Ethiopian, the greatest of the saints of Ethiopia.
Feasts of Other Saints:
On 17 Mesori, we celebrate the feast of the holy martyr James the Soldier, who had three sisters who were nuns.
On 21 Mesori, together with the Feast of the Virgin, we commemorate Saint Irene, who devoted herself to the Lord, refused to marry the sons of kings, and was the cause of the faith of her parents and several thousand people.
On 25 Mesori, we celebrate the commemoration of Saint Bessarion the Great, the disciple of Saint Anthony, the Father of Monks.
