His Holiness Pope Shenouda III speaks about the meaning of true blessedness which the Lord Christ declared in the Sermon on the Mount, explaining that blessedness is not merely temporary joy or bodily pleasure, but rather a life of blessing and spiritual happiness connected with God. He confirms that man does not find true happiness in material things or in glorifying the self, but rather in loving God and going out from the circle of selfishness to the love of others.

The spiritual teaching in the lecture focuses on the fact that purity of heart is the foundation of life with God, because the pure heart is the one that can behold God and enjoy His presence. For the Lord does not look only at outward appearances or formal deeds, but He seeks the heart filled with love and sincerity.

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III also explains that prayer, fasting, service, and all spiritual works are not accepted unless they come from a heart that truly loves God. A person may practice many acts of worship, but God first asks for the pure heart that moves with love.

He also explains that holiness is not a goal in itself, but rather a natural fruit of the love of God. The one who loves God with all his heart finds virtues coming naturally without pretension or hypocrisy. Therefore, the greatest commandment is that a person loves the Lord with all his heart, because this love leads to every righteousness.

The lecture confirms that spiritual life is not philosophy or intellectual argument, but rather a true relationship of love with God. Through this love, the heart becomes filled with purity, peace, and mercy, and the person can live the blessedness to which the Lord Christ called.

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III also stresses that true charitable works must come from a person’s love for others, not merely from social activity or outward performance, because God looks at the inner motive more than the outward work.

At the end of the teaching, he calls the believer to ask God for a pure heart filled with the love of God, because this love is the true path to spiritual joy, holiness, and beholding God.
