Many people are occupied with worldly matters—money, work, positions, pleasures—forgetting the true purpose: preparing for eternal life with God. 🌿 The importance of thinking about eternity

• The Lord said to Martha: “You are worried and troubled about many things, but one thing is needed,” meaning that eternal concern is the essential one.

• The Church teaches us through the prayers of the Agpeya to remember our eternity daily, speaking of judgment and repentance.

• Every prayer reminds us of the final day when we stand before the righteous Judge; thus we must always be ready.

🌸 The saints’ way of caring for eternity

• Saint Arsanius said: “Grant me, O Lord, to begin, for I have not yet begun,” expressing his constant humility and longing for perfection.

• King David, despite his many responsibilities, remained focused on God’s commandments, saying: “O Lord, how I love Your name; it is my meditation all the day.”

• The saints lived seeing their life on earth as a period of testing in preparation for eternity.

🌾 Obstacles to eternal thinking

• Worldly distractions: wealth, pleasure, pride, and self-focus—as with Solomon, who forgot eternity but later repented saying, “Vanity of vanities, all is vanity.”

• Life’s problems: Satan may use troubles to distract us from God.

• Procrastination: some postpone repentance, thinking they are still young, but the Church teaches that holiness can begin from childhood.

🌺 How to prepare for eternity

1. Daily repentance and self-examination for every thought and deed.

2. Purifying the heart from every sin or even appearance of evil.

3. Growing in virtue, striving for holiness, not mere avoidance of sin.

4. Meditating on God’s Word, for His law gives light and strength.

5. Letting the Holy Spirit work in us, like the oil in the wise virgins’ lamps.

🌼 The spiritual image of the prepared soul

The prepared soul is pure and fragrant, like incense rising before God, filled with the fruits of the Holy Spirit—love, joy, peace, and long-suffering.
It becomes “the sweet aroma of Christ,” spreading His light wherever it goes, able to say confidently: “I am ready, Lord.”

🌻 Conclusion

The wise person lives every day with eternity in mind, preparing joyfully to meet God.
It is not enough merely to enter heaven, but to have a glorious place there, according to one’s purity and spiritual effort.
Let us say with David: “I am a stranger on the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.”
Let our hearts be lit with the oil of the Holy Spirit, for “the world and its desires are passing away, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
