Attributes of Allah – The All-Powerful
In this profound sermon, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III explains the divine attribute of God’s omnipotence — “God who is Almighty.” He clarifies that God’s power is unlimited in all aspects: creation, miracles, forgiveness, love, and endurance. This divine power is not only physical but also spiritual and moral, enabling humans to live strong in faith, service, and perseverance.
💫 Aspects of God’s Power:
-
Power to create from nothing: Only God brings being out of nonexistence; He is the source of all existence.
-
Power to raise the dead: A divine ability belonging solely to God.
-
Power over nature: He split the Red Sea, brought water from the rock, sent manna and quails, and calmed the winds and the sea.
-
Power to heal incurable diseases: When science fails, God’s power remains limitless.
-
Power to save His children: He delivered Daniel from the lions, the three youths from the furnace, Jonah from the fish, and Peter and Paul from prison.
-
Power to change hearts: He transformed sinners into saints — Augustine, Moses the Black, Mary the Egyptian — and even drew persecutors to faith.
🌺 God’s Strength in Love and Endurance:
-
God is mighty in love, loving humanity before creating them and giving them life as a gift.
-
Mighty in patience, enduring sin, rebellion, and unbelief, always calling to repentance.
-
Mighty in humility, for He “emptied Himself” and took the form of a servant, dying on the cross for our salvation.
-
On the Cross appeared the power of divine love that surpasses all earthly strength.
🕊 Practical Application for Believers:
As people created in God’s image and likeness, believers must also be strong:
-
Strong in faith and perseverance in trials.
-
Strong in humility and self-control.
-
Strong in service and giving with zeal.
-
Strong in love and forgiveness, as St. Stephen forgave those who stoned him.
🔥 Examples of Faith:
-
St. Paul the Apostle: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me,” meaning true power comes from God.
-
St. Athanasius the Apostolic: Stood firm against heresy and kept the faith despite exile and persecution.
-
St. Stephen: Faced death with divine strength and heavenly forgiveness.
💖 Spiritual Meaning:
Divine power is not domination but active love, steadfast forgiveness, and profound humility. God wants us to share in His strength — to be His children, strong in faith, steadfast in hope, and abounding in love.
