1. The Bible is the Word of God:
His Holiness Pope Shenouda explains that the Holy Bible is not human writing but divine inspiration. The Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets and apostles, as Scripture says: “No prophecy came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.” Thus every word is from the mouth of God, full of authority and life.

2. Unity of God’s word without distinction:
He criticizes the printing of Christ’s words in red and the apostles’ in black, because all are the Word of God. Paul’s or Peter’s writings are equally inspired, for the Holy Spirit is the one who spoke through them.

3. The Bible must be read spiritually, not academically:
He warns that studying Scripture only for knowledge is empty without the Spirit. Reading must be done with humility, repentance, and prayer, so that the Word becomes life, not mere information.

4. The importance of symbolic interpretation:
Many books like the Song of Songs, Revelation, or Leviticus can only be understood symbolically. Fire represents the Holy Spirit, the sword represents spiritual struggle, and leaven symbolizes evil. The symbolic method reveals the inner spiritual depth of Scripture.

5. The perfection and depth of Scripture:
As one delves deeper, new meanings appear endlessly — “To all perfection I see a limit, but Your commandment is exceedingly broad.” The Bible is spiritual richness and divine joy.

6. The Bible as one complete unity:
He stresses that verses must be understood together, not isolated. True doctrine and spiritual understanding come from comparing Scripture with Scripture under one Spirit.

7. Tradition and preservation of Scripture:
Before the books were written, teachings were transmitted by tradition. When written, they were copied with great reverence and precision. The scribes treated the name of God with utmost holiness.

8. Personal call:
He urges all believers to keep a Bible with them, read it daily, and teach their children verses to defend their faith. The Bible should be a close friend and a source of light for every Christian.
