Saint Tadros, disciple of Saint Pachomius the Great

His Holiness Pope Shenouda speaks about Saint Theodorus, one of the most prominent disciples of Saint Pachomius the Great. Though young, he became the leader of nine monasteries extending from Sohag to Aswan, and was a model of organized monasticism and deep humility.
His Holiness highlights Saint Theodorus’ profound humility — despite his high rank, he lived simply and served as an ordinary monk, never seeking honor or distinction.
The Pope tells a story showing his humility: Saint Pachomius sent him to correct the monks in a monastery who were difficult and disobedient in the bakery. When some new monks asked about his mission, he humbly said he was going to work as a baker. When he arrived, all the monks welcomed him with great respect as the disciple of the great Pachomius — and the new monks felt ashamed of their earlier words.
Through this story, Pope Shenouda presents a deep lesson in good example and humble spirituality, teaching that a true leader serves with love and silence, and that humility is the foundation of all virtues. The life of Saint Theodorus shows how humility can heal hearts and restore unity and peace within the community.
