The Problem of Class Size

The talk addresses the problem of increasing the number of students in Sunday school classes and its impact on service and spiritual education.
When the number grows the teacher loses the ability to maintain order and wastes a lot of time restoring order.
A large number prevents effective dialogue between the teacher and the children and makes the questions and answers superficial or intermittent.
Practical and spiritual dimensions
Increasing the number leads to weak review and students’ failure to comprehend the material, and many leave not memorizing or not understanding.
The ability to follow up and personally notice absence decreases so the teacher does not feel a student’s absence amid a large group.
A large number causes the impossibility of individual work and of knowing each pupil’s family problems and spiritual condition.
Suggested and organizational solutions
Suggestions include dividing classes when they grow, preparing and training teachers, and organizing spaces and schedules.
It is useful to put two teachers in the class (one for the lesson and another for order and follow-up) and then rotate between them.
The final recommendation is that the class number should not exceed 20 or 25 students so the teacher preserves humility and spiritual fruit and can serve faithfully.
