The Life of Saint Hripsime and Saint Anasimos

The Main Idea of the Lecture
The lecture presents the story of two saints who offered a great example of loving God and leaving the glory of the world for His sake. The first is Saint Hripsime, who refused to become a queen in order to preserve her virginity and remain a bride of Christ. The second is Saint Anasimos, who was a queen but left her throne and glory to live a life of monasticism and humility.
Saint Hripsime: The Bride of Christ Who Refused the Kingdom
Saint Hripsime was a consecrated virgin nun dedicated to God. When the king admired her and wanted to marry her and make her a queen, she refused this earthly glory because she had already offered her life to Christ.
She remained steadfast in her faith and virginity despite strong temptations and pressures, and she refused to leave her consecration to God. Because of this steadfastness she suffered many tortures, but she did not retreat from her faith, until she finally received the crown of martyrdom and the crown of virginity.
Saint Anasimos: The Queen Who Chose Humility
Saint Anasimos was the daughter of a king and was raised in the royal palace. From her early age she loved the life of asceticism and monasticism after hearing about the lives of the saints.
When she became queen after the death of her parents, she used her wealth and authority to do good and to serve the poor and the needy. However, her heart remained longing for the full spiritual life.
Leaving Worldly Glory for the Spiritual Life
The saint felt that worldly glory might hinder her from a life of prayer and asceticism. Therefore, she secretly left the royal throne and escaped to a convent. There she hid her identity and lived in deep humility, even pretending simplicity so that she would not receive honor or glory from people.
The Fruits of Humility and Holiness
The saint lived a hidden life full of prayer and asceticism until God later revealed her holiness. When people began honoring her because of her humility, she left again to live an even more hidden life. With time she became a spiritual guide for monks and a great example of holiness.
The Spiritual Message
This story shows that love for God can lead a person to leave the greatest earthly glory. One of them refused to become a queen for the sake of Christ, and the other actually left the kingdom in order to live a life of humility and asceticism.
Thus, the saints teach us that the true glory is not in power or wealth, but in a life of holiness and closeness to God.
