The Attributes of God – The Holy One

The lecture clarifies and deepens the attribute holiness as a fundamental divine attribute, and shows how God is holy by nature and that everything related to Him becomes holy. The call is that the children of God be holy in the likeness and image of God.
Divine holiness and what follows it
The lecture explains that holiness is not merely a title but a divine nature: God alone is holy, the Holy Spirit is holy, and the Holy Trinity is holy. All places, things and times dedicated to the Lord (the temple, the altar, the icons, the priestly garments, the feasts) are consecrated and treated with reverence.
Sanctification of the person and the sacrament of baptism and chrism
It affirms that the believer is sanctified by the redeeming blood of Christ and by baptism then by anointing with the chrism; for the baptized is born a new person and becomes a temple of the Holy Spirit and his duty is to live a real holy life not a nominal one.
Holiness as a practical and moral life
It shows that holiness includes body, spirit, soul, mind and tongue; and that impurity is not only bodily but also mental, verbal and behavioral. Therefore continuous repentance, purification before Communion, and vigilance over words and deeds are required.
The danger of impurity and consequences
The lecture clarifies that impurity separates a person from God and deprives him of entering the kingdom of heavens, and it cites biblical events (the Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, the expulsion of Adam and Eve) to demonstrate the severity of sin.
The Church’s and believers’ calling
The Church is the community of the saints and its role is guiding: teaching, pastoral care, and preaching all aim to lead people to a life of holiness. What is required is that we live humility, contrition, and ask for mercy daily.
Practical conclusion
The summary is exhortatory and spiritual: since God is holy, the goal of believers should be to strive for a genuine holiness in their lives, not to be satisfied with titles but to seek sanctification by sacraments, virtues and repentance.
