The Attributes of God – Holiness

The lecture addresses the attribute of holiness as one of God’s attributes and examines its application to humans and its meaning in Christian life.
Holiness of God and what surrounds Him
It explains that holiness is an absolute and eternal divine attribute, and that all that pertains to God — the Holy Spirit, the angels, heaven, the city of God, and the house of God — are described as holy.
Sanctification of places, time and symbols
The lecture shows that the church, the temple, the icons, the priestly garments and the days (like Sunday and the specially dedicated Sabbath) are consecrated and made holy, and that dedication rites and the chrism make these things holy.
Sanctification of people by the blood and the chrism
It mentions that believers are sanctified by the redeeming blood of Christ and by baptism then by the chrism, and that the believer is born a new person and becomes a child of God and holy by vocation.
The moral and spiritual depth of holiness
It explains that holiness includes body, spirit, soul, mind and tongue, and that impurity is not only bodily but also mental and verbal and behavioral (such as fornication, cursing, and others).
The danger of impurity and its consequences
It warns that impurity expels the doer from the place of worship and may expose him to God’s wrath and prevent him from entering the kingdom of heavens, citing biblical examples (the Flood, Sodom and Gomorrah).
The practical life of holiness
It affirms that the life of holiness begins with repentance, grows by virtues and discipline, and that the Church calls believers to walk worthy of the holy calling and to watch every word, action and interaction.
Practical summary
The call is clear: take care for holiness in all aspects of life, prepare by purification before Communion, and consider everything related to the Lord as holy and not to be treated lightly.
