Service and its spiritual impact

⬇️ تحميل الفيديو

His Holiness Pope Shenouda III affirms that service is not limited to a specific group like Sunday School servants, but it is a spiritual and human duty for every person everywhere. Service is the way of fellowship with God and the practical expression of true love toward others, which is the essence of Christian life that reveals faith working through love.

✝️ Service as a Responsibility for All

He explains that whoever knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin, for sin is not only in wrongdoing but also in neglecting to do good. Therefore, service is required from all—young and old, married or single—because whoever lives only for himself is not a spiritual person.

❤️ The Helpful Person

The Pope calls each one to be a helpful person, serving at home, at work, in school, in the street, and in the church. Service is an expression of love, and whoever loves must serve. It is not tied to a church position; one can serve in many ways—scientific, medical, social, humanitarian, or intellectual.

🌍 Types and Forms of Service

He speaks about the wide variety of ministries: serving the sick, the blind, the deaf, the elderly, the expatriates, prisoners, orphans, the poor, and the suffering. He emphasizes that true service must have a compassionate spirit, not just an external form. Service without a loving heart has no value.

🩺 Practical and Creative Service

His Holiness encourages everyone to offer what they can: the doctor with his skill, the teacher with his knowledge, the writer with his pen, the rich with his giving, and the poor with his prayer. Even a kind word or a smile is a form of service.

🕯 The Blessing of Service

Service is not only giving but also receiving. It brings blessing, grants partnership with God, gives deep spiritual experiences, and teaches patience, humility, endurance, and living faith. The servant gains the love and prayers of others and receives God’s lasting blessing in his life and family.

💫 Service as a Path to Holiness

The true servant sanctifies himself for others, as Christ said: “For their sake I sanctify Myself.” Service leads a person to repentance and purity, for it constantly places him before God to be an example to those he serves. Through service, one experiences the power of prayer and the work of grace.

🌺 Spiritual Fruit

The Pope concludes that true fruit is the good one plants in others. Whoever brings joy to someone, comforts the sorrowful, or helps the needy is a fruitful servant, living after the example of Christ, who “went about doing good.”
