Sermon for the Feast of the Epiphany
The Lord Christ appears as a representative of Adam and his offspring, carrying the sins of mankind not only on the cross, but throughout His life as the Son of Man.
He did not justify Himself, nor did He place blame on anyone else, but carried the guilt of others with love and full willingness.
By this conduct, He pleased the heart of the Father, who testified saying: “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Christ stood among the ranks of sinners without shame, sanctifying them by His presence and transforming repentance into an act of vicarious love.
When John the Baptist hesitated, Christ declared the principle of fulfilling all righteousness with gentleness and obedience.
The text reveals that God does not delight in one who justifies himself, but in one who condemns himself and bears the burdens of others.
Through this, Christ offers us a practical lesson in enduring others and paying the price on their behalf with love.
It is a call to a Christian life based on self-giving, humility, and carrying the cross for others.
