Saint Timothy, disciple of Paul the Apostle

His Holiness Pope Shenouda speaks about Saint Timothy, the disciple of Saint Paul, whom God appointed as bishop of Ephesus. Although young in age, he held a great position in the early Church through his strong faith and deep spiritual wisdom.
Saint Paul’s Guidance to Him
Pope Shenouda highlights Saint Paul’s words to Timothy: “Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers.” This means he should not let his youth be a cause for anyone to look down on him, but rather make his life a model of faith, purity, and teaching. Saint Paul also urged him to preach, rebuke, and exhort with courage, showing that true ministry depends on the Holy Spirit’s power, not on age or experience.
The Spiritual Message
Through Timothy’s life, Pope Shenouda shows that God works mightily through young people, granting them wisdom beyond their years. True strength lies not in age but in faith working through love. Timothy stands as a model of a spiritual young man who follows God’s call, leading others by good example and holy zeal.
