Saint Anasimun

The lecture tells the life of a saint who was a princess who inherited the kingdom and became a queen, yet from her childhood she loved monastic life and asceticism after she learned the lives of the saints. Despite her position and the pleasures of the palace, she hid her love for monasticism and lived a simple life inside the palace, distributing her wealth to the poor, hospitals and monasteries, and she offered worship and asceticism in secret.
📜 Sequence of events:
-
In her childhood she loved monastic life and feared that her parents would force her, so she kept her desire secret.
-
After her parents died she sat on the throne and became queen, but she continued in austerity and asceticism and loved the people by her services and mercy.
-
When she felt that the affairs of the kingdom kept her from her prayer and asceticism, she decided to flee the kingdom and abandon earthly glory.
👑 The flight and disguise:
She disguised herself in the clothing of a poor person and fled to the wilderness and entered a convent of nuns where she acted as if she were insane and foolish so that she would remain humble and not be taken by people’s respect. She worked at the greatest humiliating tasks of cleaning latrines and served without anyone knowing her virtues or wisdom.
🧑⚖ The revelation by the saints:
A father known for spiritual revelation visited the convent; the nuns rushed to receive his blessing except for this foolish one. This father revealed that that foolish one is in truth the great saint Ansimus — the queen who left her throne and crown to be a nun and live a life of humiliation to receive her full reward in heaven.
💫 Spiritual dimension and theological teaching:
Her life teaches us the value of true humility and hiding virtues, and that earthly glory is not equal to the spiritual struggle. Sacrificing power and wealth for divine love and asceticism shows that salvation is linked to renouncing the self and striving for a full life with God.
🛐 Closing exhortation:
The story of the saint reminds every believer that repentance and withdrawal to God are possible even for those at the heights of the world, and that humility, abasement, and choosing simple service are ways that lead to divine glory and spiritual blessing.
