Prophet Samuel – Part 2

The Main Idea of the Lecture
The lecture discusses the continuation of the story of the Prophet Samuel and his role in guiding God’s people, then the transition to the era of kings and the appearance of King Saul. It explains how a person may begin with a good beginning but fall because of pride and disobedience to God. It also highlights the character of David as a model of nobility, humility, and submission to God’s will.
Prophet Samuel and His Spiritual Role
The text shows that Samuel was the man of God chosen to be a mediator between God and the people. After the corruption of the people and their request for a king like other nations, God allowed this request even though it was not according to His will, showing that God sometimes allows people what they want so that they may learn from the consequences.
The Beginning of King Saul
Saul began with a good start, characterized by humility and obedience in the beginning of his life. Samuel anointed him as king and the Spirit of God came upon him. This was a strong spiritual beginning, and people were amazed and said: Is Saul also among the prophets?
The Spiritual Fall of Saul
With time, Saul began to rely on himself and on his authority, and he no longer waited for God’s guidance. He disobeyed God’s commandments more than once and began to justify his mistakes instead of repenting. Therefore God declared the rejection of Saul’s kingship because obedience is better than sacrifices.
The Choice of David as King
God sent Samuel to Bethlehem to choose a new king. The choice was not according to appearance or human strength but according to the heart. Therefore God chose David, the young shepherd, and anointed him king while he was still shepherding the sheep.
Saul’s Conflict with David
After David’s victory over Goliath and the increase of the people’s love for him, jealousy entered Saul’s heart. He began to chase David and attempt to kill him, even though David was serving him and calming him when the evil spirit troubled him.
David’s Nobility and Humility
When Saul fell into David’s hands more than once, David refused to harm him saying that he is the Lord’s anointed. Thus David showed a noble spirit, responding to evil with good and hostility with forgiveness, and continued to respect the king despite his injustice.
The Spiritual Message
The lecture shows that the fall of a person often begins with pride and self-reliance instead of trusting in God. It also shows that nobility, humility, and obedience to God are the true path to spiritual success, as seen in the life of David.
